The musée des Beaux-Arts de Besançon reopening

In 2018, Besancon will celebrate the 10th anniversary Vauban's work classified on the UNESCO's World Heritage List and will reopen the doors of its museum. After several years of closure, the Musée des Beaux-Arts et d'Archéologie de Besancon, which houses the oldest public French collection (1694), will reopen its doors on 16 November 2018. Almost 50 years after its last renovation, this large-scale rehabilitation has covered both the building and the museographic path. Under the direction of the architect Adelfo Scaranello, many spaces, open to visitors, have been created. Moreover, the visit now extends over 3600m2 or more than 1000m2 of additional exhibition space. Both chronological and thematic, this more coherent path will leave more room for the archaeological collections displayed on the ground floor.
