“Éloge de la sensibilité” (“Ode to sensibility”)

Eloge de la sensibilité (“Ode to sensibility”) presents 60 of the most important French 18th century paintings stored in museums and institutions of Brittany, from Antoine Watteau, at the beginning of the century, to the turn of the following century. The exhibition follows the evolution of French painting over the course of a century, through the lens of sensibility, a new concept for the time, exploring and glorifying the senses and feelings. The Musée d’arts de Nantes highlights genre painting: from Jean-Baptiste Greuze’s portraits to Jean-Siméon Chardin’s still-lives, including the beautiful landscapes by Hubert Robert…
