Katia Kameli, Elle a allumé le vif du passé

Organized as part of the Focus Women of the Africa2020 Season, this monographic exhibition is dedicated to the Franco-Algerian artist and director Katia Kameli (Clermont-Ferrand, 1973). His work, recognized on the international scene, is based on a research approach: the historical and cultural fact feeds the forms of his plastic and poetic imagination.

The exhibition at the Frac Provence-Alpes-Côte d´Azur offers a North African and Algerian perspective on the constitution of great stories from the continent and their international circulation. Katia Kameli specifically asks the question of the place of women in these stories and is concerned with their status as authors, creators, witnesses, or commentators.

The set of works exhibited in Marseille includes installations never before presented in France, including Le Roman algérien, a trilogy of films conceived as an immersion in Algerian history or Stream of stories, an exploration of the oriental origins of the fables of Jean de La Fontaine.
